Legend of Deification

Legend of Deification, known in Mandarin as Jiang Ziya, was released in 2020 by One & All Animation Studio as a central pillar of their expansive Fengshen Cinematic Universe. The film serves as a thematic follow-up to the studio's successful Ne Zha, reimagining classical Chinese mythology for a contemporary audience. It centers on the legendary figure Jiang Ziya, stripping away traditional heroic tropes to explore themes of sacrifice, moral ambiguity, and the heavy cost of individual duty in a fractured divine hierarchy.

The film's visual identity was spearheaded by directors Cheng Teng and Li Wei, who drew inspiration from both traditional Chinese ink wash painting and modern high-fantasy aesthetics. They utilized a distinct color palette and surreal, dreamlike imagery to differentiate the film from conventional animated features. Upon release, the work received significant critical attention for its ambitious, mature narrative approach and sophisticated animation techniques, solidifying its place in the modern landscape of Chinese feature-length animation.
