"On Stage" focuses on Ray's past as a fighter pilot, how he first met Basara, and how they formed Fire Bomber. Where it came from
Macross 7 Encore was released in 1995 as a direct sequel and epilogue to the original Macross 7 television series. Produced by Bandai Visual, these OVA episodes were designed to bridge the narrative gap between the series' conclusion and the subsequent Macross Dynamite 7 project, offering fans a deeper look into the daily lives of the Fire Bomber rock band members after the conclusion of their main conflict.
The production sought to maintain the high-energy musical aesthetic established by the television run, utilizing the same core staff to ensure stylistic continuity. While the series was aimed squarely at existing fans of the franchise, it was generally well-received for its lighthearted tone and ability to flesh out character dynamics that were sidelined during the more intense, plot-heavy episodes of the primary broadcast.
