Macross 7 Plus

Macross 7 Plus was released in 1995 as a series of special-edition direct-to-video vignettes intended to expand upon the musical and character-driven world established by the Macross 7 television anime. Produced by Ashi Productions, these shorts were designed to capitalize on the popularity of the Fire Bomber rock band within the show, providing fans with additional music videos, behind-the-scenes character glimpses, and non-canonical side stories that existed outside the primary narrative arc of the main series.

The visual direction for the project maintained the vibrant, high-energy aesthetic consistent with the television series while experimenting with different animation techniques in the musical sequences. These shorts were received by the fan base as a companion piece to the core Macross 7 experience, serving as a transitional bridge that showcased the studio's focus on integrating pop-culture elements with the space-opera conventions that have defined the Macross franchise since its inception in the early 1980s.
