Magic Kaito

Magic Kaito, or Magic Kaito: Kid the Phantom Thief, was produced by TMS Entertainment as a series of television specials beginning in 2010. These specials were based on the original manga by Gosho Aoyama, which predates his world-famous Detective Conan series. The story follows Kaito Kuroba, a charismatic teenager who discovers his late father’s identity as the elusive master thief Kaitou Kid and takes up the mantle to uncover the truth behind his father's death.

The animation was crafted to capture the lighthearted, theatrical tone of Aoyama’s early work, blending mystery with a distinctively spirited, classic shōnen aesthetic. TMS Entertainment leaned into the playfulness of the protagonist, focusing on elaborate magic tricks and cat-and-mouse dynamics with the police. Upon its release, the specials were well-received by fans of the Detective Conan universe, serving as a stylish bridge between the two interconnected series and helping to solidify the Kaitou Kid as an iconic figure in manga and anime culture.
