Where it came from
Released in 1987, Majokko Club Yoningumi: A Kuukan kara no Alien X is a crossover original video animation produced by Studio Pierrot. It serves as a promotional showcase for the studio's most iconic magical girl characters, bringing together protagonists from four distinct series: Creamy Mami, Persian, Magical Emi, and Pastel Yumi. The production was conceived during the height of the 1980s magical girl boom, functioning as a celebratory team-up to capitalize on the popularity of these established heroines.
The character designs were handled by the respective designers associated with the original series, most notably Akemi Takada, who is credited with the iconic aesthetic of the Pierrot magical girl lineup. The project sought to blend the varying artistic styles of these shows into a cohesive narrative, which centers on the girls uniting to repel an extraterrestrial threat. While it is remembered primarily as a curiosity and a historical footnote for fans of the genre, it remains a rare instance of inter-series interaction in 1980s animation.
