Where it came from
Maken-Ki! Battling Venus, also known as the second season of the Maken-Ki! anime series, was produced by Studio Xebec and released in 2014. It follows the supernatural martial arts premise of the original manga by Hiromi Takamura, centering on Takeru Ohyama and his classmates at Tenbi Academy. This installment transitioned to a new animation team compared to the first season, leading to significant shifts in character design and overall visual tone.
The production sought to emphasize a lighter, comedy-focused approach while retaining the ecchi and battle elements characteristic of the franchise. Upon release, the series received a mixed reception, with long-term fans noting the substantial divergence from the aesthetic established in the first season. While it provided closure to several plot threads from the source material, its experimental shift in art style remains a primary point of discussion within the anime community.
