Where it came from
Maken Liner 0011 Henshin Seyo! was produced by Toei Animation and released in 1972 as part of the Toei Manga Matsuri festival. It serves as a feature-length cinematic installment based on the popular manga series Cyborg 009, created by Shotaro Ishinomori. The film reflects the era's fascination with science fiction and heroic transformation narratives, utilizing the established character ensemble to deliver a high-stakes adventure suitable for the theatrical format of the time.
The film was directed by Yugo Serikawa, a key figure in Toei's animation output during the late 1960s and early 1970s. The design and visual style prioritize the dynamic, streamlined aesthetics typical of Ishinomori's works, emphasizing the distinct mechanical and biological traits of the cyborg protagonists. Upon its release, the film functioned as a celebratory expansion of the television series' continuity, intended to attract young audiences to cinemas by providing an elevated, widescreen experience of the familiar source material.
