Where it came from
Meiji Tokyo Renka: Yumihari no Serenade was released in 2015 as the first animated feature film adaptation of the popular Meiji Tokyo Renka dating simulation game franchise. Produced by Studio DEEN, the film was designed to bridge the narrative gap for fans of the game, centering on the protagonist Mei Ayazuki's time-traveling romantic encounters with various historical figures from the Meiji era in Japan.
The film's visual identity remains faithful to the established character designs of the series, characterized by a refined, shōjo-influenced aesthetic that emphasizes period-appropriate attire and atmospheric, romantic settings. The project was received primarily as a dedicated expansion for the existing fanbase, serving to deepen the character-driven storytelling of the original visual novel through a cinematic lens.
