Where it came from
Missing You is a short animated work produced by the Tokyo University of the Arts, often referred to as Geidai. This project emerged from the university’s highly regarded animation program, which serves as a creative crucible for emerging filmmakers. The production reflects the institution's commitment to fostering a unique, auteur-driven approach to storytelling, emphasizing distinct visual identities and experimental narrative structures over commercial conventions.
The film is emblematic of the Geidai Animation school’s broader philosophy, where students are encouraged to explore personal, often melancholic or contemplative themes through innovative animation techniques. By focusing on the emotional resonance of human connection and distance, the work highlights the deliberate, hand-crafted aesthetic common to the studio's portfolio. It was received as a thoughtful piece of academic animation, demonstrating the rigorous training and refined artistic sensibility that has helped the university's graduates gain prominence in the global independent animation community.
