Miyuki-chan In Wonderland

Miyuki-chan in Wonderland was released in 1995 as a single-episode original video animation based on the manga by the creative collective CLAMP. The project emerged during a period of rapid expansion for the studio, following the success of series like Tokyo Babylon and Magic Knight Rayearth. The adaptation sought to translate CLAMP's intricate, ethereal aesthetic into a surreal, episodic journey that subverts the logic of Lewis Carroll’s classic through a lens of 1990s Japanese pop culture.

The character designs were overseen to reflect the high-fashion, elongated proportions characteristic of CLAMP’s signature style during the mid-nineties. By focusing on a series of dreamlike encounters, the producers aimed to emphasize the visual whimsy of the original artwork over a traditional narrative structure. Upon its release, the OVA was received as a stylish curiosity, noted primarily for its dedication to the visual flair of the manga while remaining a distinct outlier in the studio's broader, more plot-driven bibliography.
