Where it came from
Monster Strike the Animation debuted in 2015 as a web-based ONA series, created to serve as a narrative expansion for the immensely popular mobile game developed by Mixi. Produced by Studio Hibari and Ultra Super Pictures, the series was designed to deepen the player experience by providing lore and character backstories for the game's various monsters and protagonists, effectively transitioning the property from a simple physics-based puzzle game into a broader multimedia franchise.
The production utilized a distinct visual style aimed at capturing a younger audience while maintaining the high-energy aesthetic of the original game. By leveraging a serialized streaming format on YouTube, the studio was able to reach a global audience immediately, bypassing traditional television broadcast windows. The animation was received as an effective promotional tool that successfully engaged the core player base, helping to cement the game's longevity in a competitive mobile market.
