Where it came from
Monster Strike the Animation: Summer Special - Mermaid Rhapsody was released in 2016 as a standalone episode expanding the narrative universe of the popular mobile game Monster Strike. Produced by Studio Hibari, this ONA was designed to capitalize on the success of the primary web series, offering fans a seasonal thematic diversion that focused on character development through a lighthearted, aquatic-themed summer plotline.
The animation style and character designs were carefully crafted to maintain consistency with the established aesthetic of the Monster Strike franchise, balancing high-energy action with the colorful, expressive character models favored in Japanese mobile game adaptations. It was received as a welcomed supplemental piece by the existing player base, serving as a promotional bridge between major story arcs and reinforcing the brand's presence as a cross-media entertainment property.
