MURCIÉLAGO

Murciélago, produced by Studio Satelight and released in 2027, is an animated television series based on the long-running manga series written and illustrated by Yoshikana Kana. The project represents a significant endeavor for Satelight, tasked with adapting the manga’s dark, visceral tone and complex character dynamics into a serialized format. The series focuses on the narrative surrounding Kuroko Koumori, a notorious serial killer granted a reprieve from death row by the government to serve as an agent of state-sanctioned violence.

The production sought to balance the source material’s graphic content with the stylistic, high-energy action sequences for which the studio is known. Designers aimed to maintain the sharp, aggressive aesthetic of the original character art while utilizing modern digital animation techniques to enhance the pacing of the story's violent encounters. Upon release, the series garnered attention for its uncompromising loyalty to the manga's grim atmosphere, finding a niche audience that appreciated its stark departure from standard industry tropes.
