Murder

Alfred Hitchcock's 1930 film Murder! was produced during a pivotal transitional period for the director, marking his first foray into the sound era after his success with Blackmail. It was adapted from the stage play Enter Sir John by Clemence Dane and Helen Simpson, reflecting the contemporary fascination with the 'whodunit' genre that dominated theater and literature in the late 1920s.

The film is notable for its innovative use of early sound technology, particularly a stream-of-consciousness sequence where the protagonist listens to the radio, showcasing Hitchcock's early experimentation with auditory storytelling. While it was not a massive commercial success upon its initial release, it is frequently cited by film historians for establishing the archetype of the inquisitive amateur sleuth who plays a central role in unfolding the mystery, a motif that would become a staple of Hitchcock's future works.
