The world has collapsed due to a zombie pandemic. The protagonist, Mikoto Amano, wakes up in an unfamiliar place with no memory and is taken in by six girls. However, a shocking incident occurs: a man who was taken in alongside Mikoto is murdered, and the culprit is one of them.
Set in the Tokyu Kabukicho Tower, mysteries and secrets unfold one after another within the now-sealed building. Will the girls, who have begun to form a bond, be able to uncover the truth behind the incident?

Where it came from
Murder Mystery of the Dead emerged in 2024 as a notable entry from ABC Animation, reflecting a contemporary trend of blending classic investigative mystery tropes with supernatural or high-stakes thriller elements. Developed to serve a modern audience seeking episodic intrigue, the series was designed to balance traditional whodunit puzzle-solving with the kinetic, expressive visual language typical of current ABC Animation projects.
The creative direction behind the series focused on creating an atmospheric experience that prioritized character-driven tension over purely procedural beats. While the specific lead animators and writers often function within a collaborative studio framework, the production aimed for a distinct aesthetic that distinguished it from the wider network slate. Upon release, the series was noted for its attempt to revitalize the mystery genre, finding a niche audience interested in the specific stylistic choices favored by the production team.
