Where it came from
Nagareboshi Lens, or Shooting Star Lens, began as a popular shojo manga series by Mayu Murata, serialized in Ribon magazine. Following the success of the original print run, the franchise was adapted into a series of short anime specials broadcast by TV Tokyo in 2012. These segments were produced to capitalize on the manga's established popularity among younger audiences, capturing the romantic, high-school melodrama that defined the source material.
The animation style for these specials prioritized a soft, pastel-toned aesthetic that mirrored Murata's delicate character designs. While the specials were produced by TV Tokyo to serve as a companion piece to the manga, they were received primarily as a promotional effort to drive further engagement with the printed volumes. The production aimed to distill the emotional beats of the central romance into a concise, episodic format that remained faithful to the shojo tropes prevalent in early 2010s daytime television.
