Where it came from
Nezumi Monogatari: George to Gerald no Bouken, known in English as Mouse Tale: The Adventures of George and Gerald, was produced by the acclaimed Studio Madhouse in 2007. The project emerged from a landscape of Japanese animation that frequently looked toward heartwarming, classic literary themes, adapting a story intended to capture the imagination of a younger audience while showcasing the studio's technical versatility outside of their more adult-oriented works.
The film's visual identity reflects the characteristic clean line work and expressive character design associated with Madhouse's mid-2000s output. By focusing on the bond between two distinct mice, the production team aimed to create a gentle, character-driven narrative. Upon its release, it was received as a modest, charming addition to the studio's diverse catalog, noted primarily for its wholesome tone and straightforward, traditional storytelling approach.
