Where it came from
Ninja Girl & Samurai Master 2nd, released in 2017, serves as the second season of the anime adaptation of the manga series Nobunaga no Shinobi, created by Naoki Shigeno. Produced by TMS Entertainment and directed by Akitaro Daichi, the series maintains the comedic and historical tone of the original source material. It continues the story of Chidori, a young ninja who pledges her loyalty to the warlord Oda Nobunaga, blending lighthearted gag-humor with the Sengoku period's complex political landscape.
The character designs and animation style were crafted to reflect the concise, four-panel comic strip format of the manga. By utilizing a vibrant, simplified aesthetic, the studio emphasized the character-driven humor rather than hyper-realistic portrayals of feudal Japan. The series was well-received by audiences for its ability to condense historical events into digestible, humorous segments, further cementing the franchise's reputation for making historical subjects accessible and entertaining.
