Where it came from
One: Kagayaku Kisetsu e, released in 2001, is an original video animation adaptation of the visual novel created by the studio Tactics. The production arrived during a pivotal era for visual novel adaptations, following the success of the source material which helped establish the emotional 'nakige' genre. KSS produced this series as a direct response to the popularity of the game's narrative, which focuses on themes of memory, loss, and the supernatural.
The character designs for the anime were handled by Junichi Hayama, who sought to translate the aesthetic of the original game’s artwork into a traditional animation format. While the game was highly influential in the industry for its storytelling, the OVA series received a mixed reception from fans of the source material, who often compared the condensed narrative of the four-episode series unfavorably to the intricate branching paths and extensive character development found in the original visual novel.
