Where it came from
One More Time, One More Chance was released in 1997 as the signature single by Japanese singer-songwriter Masayoshi Yamazaki. It was composed to serve as the ending theme for the feature film 'One More Chance' and quickly became the defining ballad of Yamazaki’s career, establishing his reputation for blending folk sensibilities with modern pop production.
The song gained an international resurgence in 2007 when it was prominently featured in Makoto Shinkai’s animated masterpiece, '5 Centimeters Per Second.' The melancholic narrative of the film, which explores the persistent ache of lost connections and the passage of time, cemented the track as a nostalgic anthem for audiences worldwide. Its enduring popularity stems from its sparse, emotive acoustic arrangement and its lyrical focus on the impossibility of reclaiming the past.
