Ouch, Chou Chou

Ouch, Chou Chou is a notable entry in the late 20th-century landscape of avant-garde literature and experimental book arts. Produced during a period when creators were increasingly pushing the boundaries of physical format as a narrative device, the work functions as much as a sculptural object as it does a traditional text. Its inception was rooted in the movement to redefine the reader's tactile engagement with stories, utilizing unconventional binding and paper stock to mirror the jarring or tender nature of the content.

The design of this piece reflects a deliberate departure from the austere aesthetics of classic publishing, opting instead for a playful, textured presentation. It was crafted by artisans interested in the intersection of industrial design and whimsical storytelling. Upon its release, it was received primarily as a curiosity by the literary establishment, finding its most passionate audience among collectors of artist books who valued the fusion of innovative structural engineering with experimental prose.
