Hi no Tori is a collection of stories that all have something in common. The Phoenix, whose blood is believed to give an eternal life to one who drinks it. Therefore many seek to kill it, but as the Phoenix of the tale, it's reborn from the ashes. Stories take place in future and the past, where humans fight with each other as always, and everyone is afraid to die. But still, every story teaches a lesson: Life is beginning of an eternity, an never-ending cycle.

Where it came from
Phoenix, also known as Hi no Tori, was released in 2004 as a television series produced by Madhouse and Tohokushinsha Film Corporation. It adapts the sprawling, multi-era manga epic by Osamu Tezuka, often considered his life's work. The series was designed to translate the philosophical depth of the original source material, which explores the cycle of life, death, and human folly across thousands of years of history and futuristic settings.
The production utilized a distinct visual approach, carefully adapting Tezuka's original character designs while incorporating modern animation techniques to distinguish the disparate time periods. The series was well-received by critics for its ambitious narrative scope and faithful representation of Tezuka's humanist themes. It remains a hallmark of the studio's commitment to prestige animation and is regarded as a definitive adaptation of one of manga's most complex narratives.
