Summer! Everyone is full of energy today. Pikachu and friends play with their beach ball! Pikachu and Pochama are chasing and diving in a river when they drift over and see a metropolis. "Where are we?" they said, searching from the rooftops of the buildings. Suddenly, with a bang, jagged-eared Pichu and Muchul collide. The two argue in an angry mood. "Sparkling is gone! It was the present to give to Kireihana..." Besides, today is her birthday!? This is troublesome! We must hurry and search. Moreover, Nyarth-tachi are aiming too! Thus, the Great Sparkling Search begins!

Where it came from
Pikachu no Kirakira Daisousaku!, or Pikachu's Sparkling Search, was produced by OLM, Inc. as a special short film released in 2009. It was primarily created for the Pokémon Daisuki Club website, serving as an exclusive digital entertainment piece for members of the Japanese Pokémon fan community. The short continues the tradition of non-canonical, character-focused side stories that expand upon the personalities of Pokémon outside the high-stakes narrative of the main films.
The production maintains the visual language established by the long-running Pokémon anime series, focusing on a lighthearted quest involving Pikachu and other familiar Pokémon. Like many OLM shorts from this era, the animation prioritizes expressive character interactions and gentle humor, designed to appeal to a younger audience. It is a quintessential example of the supplemental content OLM produced to maintain fan engagement during the late Diamond and Pearl era of the franchise.
