Where it came from
Released in 2011 as the third theatrical feature in the Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf franchise, Moon Castle: The Space Adventure was produced by Creative Power Entertaining. This film marked a significant expansion of the franchise's scope, moving the characters from their established setting in Green Green Grassland to a high-concept science fiction narrative set in space. It was created to capitalize on the immense popularity of the original animated series, which had become a cultural phenomenon across China.
The film's visual design aimed to blend the familiar, simplified aesthetic of the television series with more ambitious animation techniques suited for a cinematic release. The production sought to broaden the appeal of the characters for a family audience, incorporating elements of adventure and spectacle. While the series was frequently praised for its success in domestic animation, this specific entry was received as a standard expansion of the brand, continuing the tradition of the long-running rivalry between the goat village and the antagonist, Big Big Wolf.
