Where it came from
Pokédance was released in early 2024 as a promotional campaign by The Pokémon Company International to celebrate the expansion of the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet video games. The project featured a high-energy, synchronized dance routine performed by various Pokémon species, choreographed in a style reminiscent of viral social media dance trends. The campaign aimed to foster community engagement and celebrate the franchise's enduring cultural impact through a modern, digital-first creative lens.
The animation style was heavily influenced by the aesthetic established in the Pokémon Horizons series, utilizing fluid, expressive character movements and vibrant, saturated color palettes to appeal to both long-time fans and younger audiences. It was received as a lighthearted digital phenomenon, quickly gaining traction across platforms like TikTok and YouTube. The project highlighted the company's shift toward incorporating interactive, trend-driven content to maintain visibility in a fast-paced online environment.
