Where it came from
Pokémon 3D Adventure: Mew wo Sagase! was produced by OLM in 2005 as a specialized short film designed for exhibition in Japanese planetarium theaters. It was created to provide a unique, immersive experience for Pokémon fans, utilizing stereoscopic 3D animation to draw viewers into a search for the elusive Mythical Pokémon, Mew, set against the backdrop of a vast, interactive environment.
The production represents a distinct period in the mid-2000s when the Pokémon Company explored experiential and location-based media to broaden the franchise's reach beyond television and film. The visuals were tailored specifically for dome-projection technology, emphasizing depth and spatial scale. While these shorts were limited to specific educational and entertainment venues in Japan, they remain notable among collectors for their scarcity and the technical ambition required to translate the familiar 2D aesthetic into a 3D planetarium format.
