Where it came from
Prayer X, a track released by the Japanese band King Gnu in 2018, served as the ending theme for the anime adaptation of the manga series Banana Fish. Produced during the band's rise to prominence, the song was crafted to mirror the gritty, melancholic, and tragic atmosphere of the source material. It reflects the internal struggle and desperation of the characters, grounding its emotional resonance in the narrative themes of the series.
The composition features the distinctive vocal interplay between Daiki Tsuneta and Satoru Iguchi, blending alternative rock with a moody, synth-driven soundscape. The track was received as a definitive element of the show's aesthetic, helping to cement King Gnu's reputation for thematic depth. It is widely regarded as a pivotal piece in the band's discography that successfully bridged the gap between independent rock sensibilities and mainstream anime culture.
