Psycho Diver: Soul Siren

Psycho Diver: Soul Siren was produced by the renowned animation studio Madhouse and released in 1997 as a two-part original video animation series. Adapted from the light novel series by Baku Yumemakura, the project was part of a wave of 1990s dark fantasy anime that explored psychological themes, dream manipulation, and supernatural horror. It reflects the era's fascination with merging high-concept metaphysical storytelling with the stylized, gritty aesthetic that established Madhouse as a premier studio for mature animation.

The character design and visual direction were crafted to evoke a sense of unease and surrealism, emphasizing the series' core concept of a 'psycho diver' who enters the subconscious minds of others to resolve trauma or combat malevolent entities. While the series remains a niche entry in the studio’s vast filmography, it is frequently cited by enthusiasts of 90s OVA culture for its atmospheric art direction and the dark, evocative world-building characteristic of Yumemakura’s writing style.
