In the middle of an all-out invasion by extra-dimensional aliens, rebel alien scientist Zeku gathers teenagers with various psychic powers, like Isamu. Once on board Zeku’s ship… and on board with his mission to defend the human race from extinction… Isamu and his fellow teens use mental energy to create enormous suits of armor with which to battle the Garadain Empire. Through the course of the series, the teammates fight each other, fall in love, and battle wherever necessary to protect Earth, whether that’s at home, in deep space, or even while trapped on the alien world itself.

Where it came from
Psycho Armor Govarian emerged in 1983 as a unique entry in the mecha anime landscape, produced by Knack Productions. The series was conceptualized during a period when the genre was shifting away from traditional super robots toward more integrated, human-piloted biological armors. It is notable for its connection to Go Nagai, whose character designs infused the titular robot with the distinctive, stylized aesthetic associated with his broader works during that era.
The series explored the concept of a protagonist, Isamu Zaidoji, whose psychic powers allowed him to materialize the Govarian armor to combat the alien Zule forces. Despite its thematic ambition, the show remains a cult classic rather than a mainstream phenomenon, often studied by enthusiasts for its experimental blend of psychic tropes and hard science-fiction mecha design. It stands as a reflective example of the creative risks studios were willing to take in the crowded 1980s Japanese animation market.
