Qin Shi Mingyue: Tian Xing Jiu Ge 2

Tian Xing Jiu Ge, or The Nine Songs of the Sky, is a spin-off series within the expansive Qin Shi Mingyue (The Legend of Qin) franchise, produced by Sparkly Key Animation. It was launched to explore the backstory of Han Fei, a central figure whose philosophical and political maneuvering provides a more mature, intrigue-heavy narrative than the main series. The second installment continues the studio’s signature aesthetic, which emphasizes fluid, high-fidelity 3D character modeling and intricate combat choreography that set a high standard for domestic Chinese animation at the time.

The visual design of the series reflects a blend of historical aesthetic research and stylized fantasy, led by the creative team at Sparkly Key Animation. The goal was to provide a deeper look at the warring states period through the lens of political suspense and complex character dynamics rather than just epic-scale warfare. It was received as a sophisticated expansion of the franchise, lauded by critics for its improved rendering techniques and its ability to weave dense, character-driven storytelling into a visually rich historical framework.
