Facing the threat of the Qin State, danger seems to lurk within the Han State, which is known as the weakest out of the Seven States. Unknown to the Han Emperor, that very threat is the Great General of Han, Ji Wuye. Working under the Great General are the Four Fearful Warriors of Nightfall.
Each four specialized in military, finance, politics, and espionage. In hopes of creating a new Han State, Quicksand was formed by Han Fei, the ninth prince of the Han. With Wei Zhuang, Zhang Liang, Zinü, and Nong Yu, they support the Prince in realizing the goal of Quicksand while being drawn into a whirlpool of power named “world”.

Where it came from
Tian Xing Jiu Ge, or The Nine Songs of the Sky, was produced by Sparkly Key Animation as a prequel to the long-running series Qin Shi Mingyue. Released starting in 2016, the project was designed to expand the franchise’s lore by exploring the formative years of the protagonist Han Fei and his organization, the Quicksand. The studio aimed for a higher production standard than the original series, utilizing sophisticated 3D character modeling and motion capture to emphasize a more cinematic, mature aesthetic suited to its political thriller themes.
The series received significant acclaim within the Chinese animation industry for its elevated visual fidelity and complex narrative structure. Critics and viewers noted that the creative team focused on intricate costume design and fluid combat choreography, which represented a distinct evolution from the earlier iterations of the Qin Shi Mingyue universe. It stands as a notable example of the growth of high-budget domestic ONA production in China, successfully bridging the gap between historical drama and stylized fantasy.
