Where it came from
Rage of Bahamut: Genesis - Short Story refers to the collection of supplemental narratives released following the conclusion of the 2014 anime series. Produced by studio MAPPA, these stories were intended to bridge the gap between the chaotic events of the first season and the subsequent series, Rage of Bahamut: Virgin Soul. They served to flesh out the backstories of the main characters, Favaro Leone and Kaisar Lidfard, providing context for the shifting political landscape of Mistarcia.
The creative direction for these pieces maintained the high-energy, swashbuckling tone established by director Keiichi Sato. By leaning into the series' roots as a mobile card game adaptation, the narrative style focused on episodic world-building rather than dense lore. Fans and critics generally received these additions as a welcome expansion, praising MAPPA for maintaining the distinct, vivid art style that differentiated the series from other fantasy titles of the period.
