Where it came from
Red Forest was produced by Geidai Animation, the graduate school animation department of the Tokyo University of the Arts. Established to foster independent vision and technical mastery, the studio functions as a pedagogical hub where students create short-form animated films that often prioritize experimental narrative structures and distinct visual aesthetics over commercial trends.
The film emerged from this collaborative academic environment, reflecting the studio's focus on hand-crafted artistic expression. It utilizes an evocative visual language characteristic of the program's output, which typically emphasizes atmospheric world-building and metaphorical storytelling. The project was designed to showcase the technical growth of its creators and has since been recognized in international animation circles for its distinctive craft and artistic integrity.
