RG Veda

RG Veda was produced in 1991 as a two-episode original video animation (OVA) adaptation of the manga series by the creative collective CLAMP. Released at the height of the early 90s OVA boom, the project aimed to condense the complex, mythologically inspired narrative of the original print work into a visually striking animated format. The production was spearheaded by Animate, reflecting the studio's broader strategy of capitalizing on the rapid surge in popularity of shōjo manga during that decade.

The character designs were heavily influenced by the distinct, ethereal aesthetic that would eventually become the hallmark of CLAMP's style. The animation sought to translate the intricate, flowing robes and dramatic, melancholic character expressions from the manga onto the screen, utilizing a palette and art direction consistent with the darker fantasy tone of the source material. While it is regarded today as a notable early adaptation from the group, the limited runtime resulted in a narrative reception that was often viewed as fragmented compared to the depth of the original manga.
