Where it came from
Ring ni Kakero 1: Sekai Taikai-hen was produced by Toei Animation in 2011 as the third installment in the modern anime adaptation of Masami Kurumada’s classic boxing manga. Following the initial success of the first series and the subsequent 'Nichibei Kessen-hen' arc, this iteration focuses on the highly anticipated world tournament, bringing the protagonist Ryuji Takane and his rivals to a global stage.
The animation style preserves the signature intensity of Kurumada's work, which is known for its dramatic flair and over-the-top, god-like techniques. While the original manga dates back to the late 1970s and is credited with establishing the tropes of the 'shonen battle' genre, this 2011 production was received as a stylistic homage to the era's aesthetic, maintaining a dedicated following among fans of classic sports anime who appreciate the high-stakes narrative progression inherent in Kurumada’s storytelling.
