Where it came from
Battle for Sanctuary Part 2 serves as the second season of the CG-animated remake of the classic Saint Seiya series by Masami Kurumada. Produced by Toei Animation and released as an ONA in 2024, this project was developed to introduce the iconic Sanctuary arc—where the Bronze Saints battle through the Twelve Houses—to a modern global audience using high-end computer-generated imagery. The production represents a continuation of the studio's effort to blend traditional narrative beats with contemporary visual aesthetics.
The visual design of this installment builds upon the stylized, semi-realistic character models established in the preceding seasons, overseen by Toei’s production team to maintain continuity in the franchise’s reboot timeline. While the core plot remains faithful to the original 1980s manga and anime source material, the direction focuses on streamlining the pacing for digital streaming platforms. Reception has been characterized by interest from longtime fans of the series and new viewers drawn to the updated technical presentation.
