A CG anime to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the series and the 40th anniversary of its mangaka.
From the dawn of time, there have been warriors who protected the Goddess Athena. Once forces of evil appear, these warriors, called the Saints will present themselves.
A young woman, Saori Kido, learns about this force known as "Cosmos" and that she is the reincarnation of Athena, protector of love and peace on Earth. However, the Pope of the Sanctuary, who is in the charge of all the Saints, does not take kindly to Saori, and targets her for usurping the identity of Athena. An assassin is sent out to kill her. Fortunately, one of the Bronze Saints, Seiya, manages to protect her. But will Seiya be able to protect Saori through to the end in the gripping saga of Saint Seiya: Legend of Sanctuary?

Where it came from
Saint Seiya: Legend of Sanctuary was produced by Toei Animation to commemorate the 40th anniversary of creator Masami Kurumada's career. Released in 2014, the film serves as a modern reimagining of the classic Sanctuary arc from the original manga and anime series. It was directed by Keiichi Sato, who sought to leverage cutting-edge computer-generated imagery to update the iconic armored designs for a contemporary cinematic audience, moving away from the traditional hand-drawn aesthetic that defined the 1980s franchise.
The film's visual direction focused on a high-fidelity, polished aesthetic intended to showcase the potential of 3D animation in depicting the complex Cloth armor sets worn by the protagonists. Upon its release, the project received a polarized reception; while many critics and long-time fans praised the ambitious technical execution and fluid action sequences, others noted that the narrative compression required to fit a lengthy story arc into a feature-length runtime resulted in significant pacing issues that left some viewers yearning for the depth of the original source material.
