SAMURAI NOODLES: THE ORIGINATOR

Samurai Noodles: The Originator is a 2016 original net animation (ONA) created to serve as a high-concept marketing vehicle for the Seattle-based ramen chain of the same name. Developed as a bold piece of branded content, the short film leans into the aesthetic of classic 1970s and 1980s Japanese samurai cinema and grindhouse animation. By blending the culinary craft of ramen preparation with the stylized intensity of a period action film, the project aimed to elevate the brand's identity through creative, visually arresting storytelling rather than traditional advertising methods.

The animation was produced to capture the kinetic energy and dramatic flair typical of vintage anime, emphasizing fluid motion and stylized character design. Its reception among food enthusiasts and animation fans was largely positive, particularly for its willingness to experiment with the fusion of high-intensity action tropes and the humble, traditional craft of noodle making. By leaning into niche subcultures, the creators successfully positioned the establishment as a destination for those who appreciate both authentic ramen and the cultural sensibilities of classic Japanese media.
