Sengoku BASARA - End of Judgement

Sengoku BASARA: End of Judgement was produced in 2014 by Telecom Animation Film as an adaptation of the Sengoku BASARA video game franchise, specifically centering on the events of the Battle of Sekigahara. This series emerged during a period of sustained popularity for the franchise, which had successfully reinvented the history of Japan's Warring States period through a stylized, high-octane lens that balanced historical fiction with over-the-top character designs.

The animation direction for this installment shifted away from the visual style of previous adaptations, opting for a leaner, more serious character design language intended to heighten the emotional stakes of the conflict between Tokugawa Ieyasu and Ishida Mitsunari. While the show was praised by fans for its focus on the primary narrative arcs of the series, critics occasionally noted the tonal shift compared to the series' earlier, more comedic installments.
