Where it came from
Self Image is an experimental animated short film produced by the students and faculty of the Tokyo University of the Arts, often referred to as Geidai. This project emerged from the university's renowned animation department, which emphasizes individual artistic voice and unconventional storytelling techniques over commercial viability. It serves as a study in introspection, utilizing the medium of animation to explore themes of identity and self-perception.
The film is characterized by a distinct visual language that reflects the rigorous aesthetic training provided at Geidai. By blending traditional techniques with contemporary digital workflows, the creators sought to capture the fluidity of the human psyche. Upon its completion, the piece was received primarily within academic and festival circles, earning recognition for its technical precision and the maturity of its conceptual exploration.
