Where it came from
The Seven Mortal Sins Zange-roku specials were released in 2017 as part of the promotional and supplementary material for the anime series Seven Mortal Sins, produced by studios TNK and Artland. These shorts were designed to expand upon the franchise's dark fantasy narrative, which focuses on the personification of the seven deadly sins, and were distributed primarily through physical media releases to provide additional character vignettes that complement the main series' aesthetic style.
The character designs for the franchise are rooted in the Hobby Japan media mix project, aiming to blend high-fantasy adventure with a distinct, stylized approach to character portraiture. While the animation team at TNK sought to maintain the provocative visual language established by the original project, the specials were intended to serve as intimate, comedic, or reflective moments for fans of the source material. They were received as niche expansions, primarily appreciated by those already invested in the broader franchise universe.
