Where it came from
Shan Shantian Tianjian, known in English as Mountain Spirit, is a Chinese original net animation (ONA) series that emerged during the growing popularity of 3D-animated fantasy dramas in China. Produced by the studio behind other popular genre titles, the series was designed to showcase advancements in domestic motion-capture and 3D rendering techniques while adapting themes from traditional Chinese folklore and wuxia literature.
The character design and visual direction for the series prioritized a blend of high-fantasy aesthetics with fluid, cinematic action sequences. By focusing on expansive world-building and intricate mythological narratives, the production sought to appeal to a younger demographic interested in high-quality digital storytelling. Upon its digital release, the series was well-received by audiences for its technical ambition and commitment to exploring indigenous cultural motifs within a modern animation format.
