This season's story takes place at the foot of the Great Wall on the frontier of the King's Continent. To safeguard peace at the border, every character who appears has left their homeland and traveled thousands of miles to this place. Although they are all "strangers" on this unfamiliar land, their shared belief gives them a common name—the Great Wall Guards.

Where it came from
Shi Wang Zhe A?, also known as The King's Avatar, emerged from the burgeoning Chinese animation industry during a period of rapid expansion in the mid-2010s. Produced by Qiying Animation, the series was adapted from a popular web novel that explored the competitive landscape of professional e-sports. The production aimed to translate the fast-paced, high-stakes tactical gameplay of gaming into a visual medium, focusing on the technical mastery of the protagonist and the intricate social dynamics of professional gaming teams.
The design of the series reflects a commitment to representing the modern digital aesthetic common in domestic Chinese web media, utilizing a blend of 2D character animation and 3D environment modeling to recreate the virtual game world. Upon its release, it was well-received by audiences for its faithful adherence to the source material's complex character development and for helping to solidify the viability of the e-sports genre in long-form animation.
