Shiwan Ge Leng Xiaohua 3

Shiwan Ge Leng Xiaohua, or 100,000 Bad Jokes, began as a popular online comic strip series created by the artist Hans Han before being adapted into a web animation series by U17. The project emerged from the burgeoning Chinese digital comics scene of the early 2010s, capturing a uniquely irreverent, meta-humorous tone that resonated deeply with internet culture. The third season, Ge Leng Xiaohua 3, continued this tradition of absurd sketches that playfully deconstruct classic tropes from fairy tales, historical legends, and modern pop culture.

The production style of the series is intentionally minimalist and low-budget, a stylistic choice that became its hallmark. By utilizing limited animation and repetitive visual gags, the U17 team leaned into the 'bad animation' aesthetic to enhance the comedic timing of their rapid-fire jokes. The series was well-received for its bold subversion of traditional Chinese storytelling norms, helping to solidify U17’s role as a pioneering platform for independent web-based animation in China.
