Where it came from
Released in 2023, Shin Jigen! Crayon Shin-chan THE MOVIE: Chounouryoku Daikessen - Tobe Tobe Temakizushi marks the first-ever 3D CG feature film in the long-running Crayon Shin-chan franchise. Produced by Shirogumi Inc., the film was created to revitalize the series' visual approach while maintaining its signature irreverent humor, transitioning characters who have been traditionally hand-drawn for decades into a fully realized three-dimensional space.
Directed and written by Hitoshi One, the film focuses on the protagonist Shinnosuke Nohara gaining superpowers, a narrative choice designed to explore the possibilities of high-quality computer animation. The production process involved a significant departure from standard aesthetic norms for the series, drawing influence from modern digital animation techniques. Upon its release, it was generally well-received for its successful transition to 3D and its ability to balance innovative technical presentation with the nostalgic tone of the original manga and anime.
