Where it came from
Shining Tears X Wind is a 2007 television anime series produced by Studio DEEN, designed to serve as a crossover adaptation of the popular Sega role-playing games Shining Tears and Shining Wind. The project aimed to integrate the distinct character rosters and fantasy settings of both titles into a single cohesive narrative, capitalizing on the established fan base of the Shining series during a period when Sega was heavily promoting its expansion into multimedia franchises.
The character designs for the series were handled by Hiroki Matsuura, who worked to translate the intricate illustrative style of Tony Taka—the artist synonymous with the games—into a format suitable for television animation. While the series was highly anticipated by enthusiasts of the original Sega software, it received a mixed reception from critics and audiences, who often noted the challenges of balancing the tonally different source materials within the constraints of a standard seasonal broadcast run.
