Where it came from
Si Hai Jing Qi, also known as The Legend of the Sea, is a 3D animated ONA produced by the studio CHOSEN. The series draws heavily from traditional Chinese cultural aesthetics and fantasy literature, representing the studio's effort to blend high-fidelity computer-generated imagery with the grand, sweeping narratives typical of classic epic storytelling. It was developed to capture the growing domestic demand for high-quality, long-form Chinese animation that explores themes of maritime adventure and mythological exploration.
The design of the series focuses on detailed character modeling and environmental world-building, aiming to immerse viewers in a vibrant, stylized version of a historical fantasy world. Upon its release, the production was noted for its technical ambition, particularly in the rendering of fluid dynamics and complex character costumes. While it navigates the competitive landscape of digital streaming platforms in China, the project is recognized as a significant entry in CHOSEN's portfolio, reflecting the studio's commitment to visual spectacle and traditional narrative roots.
