Where it came from
Released in 2017, SLIDE is a digital publication created by the Tokyo-based media platform ona. The project emerged during a period of experimentation within independent digital publishing, focusing on a minimalist aesthetic that prioritizes visual layout and rhythm over traditional editorial density. It represents the platform's commitment to exploring how digital spaces can mimic the tactile experience of flipping through a physical magazine.
The design of SLIDE is characterized by a deliberate restraint, utilizing negative space and high-contrast typography to guide the reader through its content. It was crafted as a conceptual vessel for photography and short-form storytelling, intended to function as an immersive, self-contained experience. The work was received by the design community as a successful exercise in digital editorial minimalism, often cited for its fluid navigation and clean interface architecture.
