Where it came from
Slime Boukenki: Wolf-kun Ganbaru no Maki is a brief, experimental short film produced by Production I.G, released in the early 2000s as part of the studio's broader efforts to explore different animation techniques and digital workflows. It originated from the studio's initiative to cultivate new directorial talent and experiment with distinct visual styles outside of their major feature film and television series production cycles.
The film centers on a whimsical, character-driven narrative designed to showcase fluid, expressive animation within a compact runtime. While Production I.G is widely recognized for its high-fidelity technical prowess in sci-fi and action, this short reflects their lighter, character-focused capabilities. It was received primarily as a niche curiosity, serving more as a studio portfolio piece than a commercial project intended for wide theatrical or broadcast distribution.
