Sore Ike! Anpanman: Yumeneko no Kuni no Nyanii

Sore Ike! Anpanman: Yumeneko no Kuni no Nyanii was released in 2004 as the sixteenth feature film in the long-running Anpanman franchise, produced by Tokyo Movie. The film continues the tradition of the annual summer theatrical releases that adapt Takashi Yanase’s beloved children’s books, which center on a hero whose head is made of bread. This specific entry was designed to expand the series' whimsical world-building by introducing a narrative focused on the Kingdom of Dream Cats and a character named Nyanii, reflecting the franchise's consistent focus on themes of kindness, empathy, and overcoming adversity for a young audience.

The film’s aesthetic adheres to the classic house style established by the studio, prioritizing clear, expressive character designs and vibrant animation that remained consistent with the television series aesthetic of the early 2000s. Directed by Shunji Oga, the production followed the established formula of pairing the main Anpanman feature with a short film. Like its predecessors, it was received as a stable and reliable entry in the Japanese family entertainment market, reinforcing the cultural ubiquity of Anpanman as a staple of early childhood development in Japan.
